Hydration Boost At-Home Facial
Ever heard of Skin Flooding? Up until a few months ago, I never heard of it either! After further research, I realized this is the at-home equivalent of a hydrating facial treatment! Layered products are used methodically, creating a lovely experience. This a proper way to really nourish your skin and can be done weekly or biweekly for best results in my opinion. Ready to find out how to do a Phytodermix Hydration Boost Facial at home? Here's a step-by-step guide.
First, lets start with a Cleanse: Start by cleansing your face to remove dirt, makeup, and impurities. For this facial, we recommend the most hydrating cleanser for your skin type. For myself, personally I’ll start with Phytodermix Hydrating Tea Cleanser, and then follow with the Phytodermix Geranium Oil Cleanser for a hydrating, deep pore cleanse. It’s important to use a gentle cleanser appropriate for your skin type, as this will affect your results. Once you’re thoroughly cleansed, rinse and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
Let’s talk about Exfoliation. If you plan to exfoliate during your at-home facial, this step should come after cleansing. We all know that exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells, promoting smoother skin. However, for this facial we’ll focus entirely on gentle hydration and save our exfoliant for another time. If you’re living in a dry, arid climate, check back on the blog for a future post about exfoliation when you don’t live in a humid area.
Toner: Apply a hydrating and pH-balancing toner of your choice. I’m a big fan of using floral hydrosols as toners as well, Mountain Rose Herbs has some of my very favorite hydrosols available. Toners & hydrosols can help prepare your skin for treatment products by restoring the skin’s natural pH and providing initial hydration.
Serums and Treatment Products: This is where you can target specific skin concerns like acne, fine lines, or hyperpigmentation. Apply thinner, water-based serums before thicker ones. My favorite serums for this particular facial starts with Phytodermix Ceramide & Vita C Serum, which is water-based, followed by Phytodermix Boost Facial Oil. The combination of these two serums is amazing for dry, sensitive and dehydrated skin. When you’re doing an at-home facial like this one, I recommend choosing two complimentary serums to layer.
Eye Cream: Once you’ve layered those serums, I recommend allowing a few minutes to allow the product to absorb into the skin before following with your eye product of choice. My personal favorite is Phytodermix Awake Serum. This particular formula is packed with ingredients to treat delicate skin while addressing common eye issues like fine lines and crows feet, sagging of the upper lids, pigmentation changes like dark circles and brighteners to help you look more awake.
Moisturizer: For the purposes of hydrating the skin as much as possible, apply a moisturizer suited to your skin type. I recommend Phytodermix Amino Acid Moisturizer if you’re a normal to dry skin type or Phytodermix Peptide Contour Cream if you’re in the oily to normal skin type. This helps lock in moisture and creates a barrier between your skin and the environment. We’re assuming that you’ll be doing a routine like this in the evening versus morning, but if you’re heading out into the sun after this, definitely apply sunscreen.
Facial Oil (if needed): If your skin is particularly dry, you can apply a facial oil on top of your moisturizer. This can help seal in moisture and provide extra nourishment to the skin. As recommended above, give your skin a few minutes to absord the moisturizer before adding an oil layer.
Remember, the order of application is crucial to allow each product to be absorbed properly and work effectively. Always wait a few minutes between applying different products to allow them to absorb. Also, be mindful of your skin's specific needs and adjust the products accordingly.
